Dr. Banner has a background as a National Lifeguard Examiner, Aquatics Instructor and Emergency Medical Technician. After High School, he trained as a fixed wing (glider, piston and jet) and rotary wing (commercial helicopter) pilot. In 1984 he returned to University to pursue education in the health care field.

Dr. Banner is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon (1990). Following his medical degree, he completed a Rotating Internship in Victoria B.C. and went to practice as a Flight Surgeon and Diving Medical Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. He obtained his Certification in Family Medicine in 1998 and Fellowship in Family Medicine in 2009. In 1998, he returned to complete his training in Anesthesiology and obtained this specialty certification in 2001 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has practiced medicine in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario for over 20 years.

Professional, personal and family reasons encouraged Dr. Banner to look to techniques in pain management. This lead to a more holistic view to the practice of medicine beginning with the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture then Neural Therapy, Prolotherapy, Autonomic Response Testing, Functional Medicine and Manual Medicine.   These approaches to diagnosis and treatment are well suited to the multiple chronic health complaints seen in the 80% of patients who encounter our health care system daily.

Underlying all of these therapies is the belief that the body is able, with help, to heal itself. Many of our maladies today are the result of our environment
combined with lifestyle and diet choices. It has been said, “our genes load the gun but the environment pulls the trigger”. Every visit will attempt to enlighten
the knowledge of the patient and bring light to the wisdom each patient has regarding his/her health.

Involvement in many associations in Canada and the United States feeds Dr. Banner’s desire to learn and advance his care of patients. He is the current President of the Ontario Society of Physicians for Complementary Medicine and past Chair of the Ontario Medical Association Section of Complementary and Integrative Medicine. He has continued his academic affiliation from the University of Saskatchewan and is an Adjunct Professor of Anesthesia at the University of Western Ontario.
